CLINTON, N.Y. – Senior pitcher
Amanda Carilli of the Skidmore College softball team tied the program's all-time wins mark, leading the Thoroughbreds to a road split at Hamilton Wednesday afternoon. Skidmore won the first game by a 12-1 margin, while Hamilton won game two, 7-3.
Skidmore improves to 15-13, while Hamilton's record stands to 10-16.
Carilli earned her record-tying 47
th victory in game one after allowing just one earned over five innings. She equals the mark set by Sam Crose in 2012. She is already the all-time leader in career games played (104), and complete games (77).
The Skidmore offense made things easy for Carilli, scoring 12 runs on 11 hits, its highest scoring output since heading north from Florida. The offense got going early and often, when RBI doubles by
Kristina Foley and
Maddie Nelson gave Skidmore a 2-0 lead after two. In the third, Skidmore would double its lead on an
Adrianna Garcia two-out, two-run RBI single.
Hamilton would get its lone run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double, but Skidmore would answer with a big fourth inning. A Hamilton error with the bases loaded gave Skidmore a 5-1 lead, then Garcia drew a walk to give the Thoroughbreds a 6-1 lead. With two outs,
Jill Strileckis would rip a single down the left field line, scoring two as Skidmore held an 8-1 lead. A Nelson RBI single to left center would cap the five-run inning, as the Thoroughbreds held a commanding 9-1 lead. Skidmore would finish their scoring in the fifth with a three-run inning, as Popp knocked a two-RBI double, followed by Garcia's RBI double. Carilli (12-6) would retire the side in order in the bottom of the fifth as Skidmore won via the eight-run rule.
Garcia finished 2-for-4, driving in a career-high four RBIs. The rookie also scored a run and walked once. Strileckis also finished 2-for-4, driving in two.
Karly Fishkin went 2-for-3, scoring three runs. Nelson would also go 2-for-3.
Emily Popp scored three runs.
The Continentals would tally four hits in the loss. Dez DePaulis (3-6) would allow five earned over 4.2 innings.
Skidmore would come out to another hot start in the second game, as Garcia continued her strong day with a two-RBI triple. Hamilton would add one in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half and tagged the Thoroughbreds with a five-run inning in the third. They would add a run in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. Skidmore would threaten in the fourth and fifth innings, but would leave the bases loaded each time. The Thoroughbreds would break through with their final run of the game in the sixth inning, as
Lizette Roman-Johnston bought the Thoroughbreds closer with an RBI single, scoring Strileckis.
Roman-Johnston would lead the team with two hits. Popp, Strileckis, and
Hannah Paolucci would score the runs.
Nicole Rosner (3-2) would take the loss, allowing three earned in two innings pitched, striking out a batter. Popp came in relief for the final four innings, allowing three earned and setting down two.
Claire O'Brien (4-4) would get the win for Hamilton, allowing three earned in five innings pitched. Zoe Singer would allow just two hits in relief. Offensively, Liz Brautigam would go 3-for-4, driving in a run and scoring twice.
Skidmore returns to Liberty League action this weekend. On Saturday, the Thoroughbreds will play St. Lawrence at Wagner Park, in a doubleheader originally scheduled in Canton, due to the weather in the North Country. Skidmore will wrap the weekend with a visit to defending league champion RPI. Both doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m.
