Skidmore bounces back with 15-7 win over FSC

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team started fast, scoring the first five goals en route to a 15-7 victory over Farmingdale State, in non-league action at Wachenheim Field on a cold Tuesday afternoon.
 
Skidmore snaps its losing streak, improving to 6-8. Farmingdale State falls to 8-6.
 
Eric Megnia led the Thoroughbreds with seven points on three goals and a team-leading four assists. Jason Shlonsky tallied a hat-trick, adding an assist for four points. Brendon Halloran also tallied a hat-trick. Will Lukas added three points on two goals and one assist. RJ Caruso tallied a pair of points on a goal and assist. Cody Legeza, Jack Curry, and Ian Maag also scored. Colby Farnham added an assist.
 
Ryan Warnock led with eight ground balls and also dominated the faceoff "x", winning 8-of-11 chances. Eli Millstein went 3-for-6. Alex Miller caused three turnovers, adding six ground balls. Dylan Fleishmann picked up the win, playing in the first 18:10 of the game. Chris Baughan would come in relief, making four saves in 32:19. Tim Rahill would play the final 9:31 of the game in net.
 
John McMahon tallied two goals to lead the Rams. Six other Rams scored.
 
The Thoroughbreds came out of the gate fast, scoring five goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Shlonsky would tally the first two goals of the game three minutes apart. At the 8:49 mark, Megnia joined in with a man-up goal, giving Skidmore a 3-0 lead. He would score again at the 6:51 mark as Skidmore pushed its lead to four. Halloran would cap the run 1:43 later as Skidmore led 5-0.
 
Farmingdale State would respond with a pair of goals to close the first quarter and a pair to open the second, as Skidmore held a narrow 5-4 lead. Lukas would snap the Farmingdale State run with a goal at the 11:50 mark, before the Rams scored on a man-up tally at 6:05. The Thoroughbreds would go on another scoring binge to close the half. Maag and Legeza would score 30 seconds apart as Skidmore led 8-5 with 5:22 to go. Then with a man down, Skidmore would cause a Rams turnover, as Megnia fed Lukas in transition for his fourth goal of the season. The Thoroughbreds would cap the run and the half, as Halloran fired low for his 28th of the season. Skidmore would take a 10-5 lead into the half.
 
The scoring slowed down considerably in the second half, with Shlonsky capping his hat-trick off with his 20th goal on the season, as Skidmore held an 11-5 lead. In the fourth, Farmingdale State would lead things off with a goal, but Skidmore answered with four straight to pull away for good. Halloran would score his 29th, this time with the man-advantage, to lead the scoring. One minute later, Caruso would score his second of the game, followed by Curry three minutes later. Megnia would close the Skidmore scoring with the goal at the 7:11 mark, his team-leading 29th of the season. Farmingdale State would score a goal with 58 seconds left to end the scoring.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Rams by a 45-19 margin, including  31-11 margin in shots on goal. Skidmore would also force 20 Farmingdale State turnovers. The Thoroughbreds were near-perfect in transition, completing 17-of-18 clear attempts, and would go 2-for-6 with the extra man.
 
The Thoroughbreds will return to Liberty League play with two games to complete the regular season. Skidmore will honor its 11 seniors in the home finale, on Saturday against Bard at noon.
