MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The 17
th-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team capped a busy weekend with an 8-1 loss to No. 4 Middlebury, in non-league action at the Nelson Recreational Center Sunday afternoon.
Skidmore (11-4) sees its win streak snapped at two. They will return to Liberty League action next Saturday, traveling to No. 30 Vassar. Middlebury (9-2) will face Division I Quinnipiac next Friday.
Skidmore captured its lone point in doubles. The team of
Ada Wiggins and
Renee Karchere-Sun cruised to a big victory against Catherine Blazye and Maddi Stow at No. 2, with the 8-3 victory. At No. 1,
Risa Fukushige and
Michelle Fuca put up a valiant fight against Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger, the 17
th-ranked duo in the country. They fell by an 8-6 score.
Fuca also put up a strong effort in singles, battling Schossberger at No. 4, before falling by a 7-5, 6-score.
Skidmore's battle against Vassar will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
