MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The 26
th-ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team saw its four-match win streak come to an end at the hands of No. 6 Middlebury by an 8-1 margin, in non-conference action at the Nelson Recreational Center Sunday evening.
Skidmore (10-4) will wrap up the Liberty League regular season schedule in its next match, at No. 38 Hobart next Saturday. Middlebury (14-3) has won its fourth match in a row, and will face No. 14 Trinity next Saturday.
Skidmore's lone victory came in singles action. At No. 2,
JT Wynne picked up a big victory against Noah Farrell, the 24
th-ranked singles player in the country. Wynne, ranked 10
th, rallied from dropping the first set, coming back for an 0-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory.
Despite the score, a number of matches were competitive. In first doubles, the fourth-ranked pair of
Steven Koulouris and Wynne were locked in a battle against Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger. The Skidmore pair would take a 5-4 lead but Middlebury rallied, picking up a narrow 8-6 win. At No. 3, the pair of
Jack McClaren and
Jason Keye fell to Timo van der Geest and Peter Martin by a similar 8-6 margin.
Lucas Pickering battled in his first set against Andre Xiao at No. 6, but fell by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 score.
The Thoroughbreds will look to finish the league regular season with a perfect mark at Hobart, beginning at 1 p.m.
