SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The 17
th ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team returned to action after a 14-day absence, defeating Liberty League foe Union 9-0, at the Union Tennis Courts Friday evening.
Skidmore (10-3, 6-0 Liberty League) remains undefeated thus far in league action, winning its 17
th consecutive league match. Skidmore will host No. 22 Brandeis on Saturday at the Wilton YMCA. Union (5-5, 1-3) will face St. Lawrence on Sunday.
Skidmore were strong in doubles action, as
Ada Wiggins and
Renee Karchere-Sun (No. 2) and
Alexa Goldberg and
Jessica Ampel (No. 3) cruised to easy victories.
Risa Fukushige and
Michelle Fuca had a tougher time at No. 1, but were able to pull away from Megan Brown and Natalia Pezzuco with an 8-5 victory.
Skidmore would win five of its six matches in straight sets to earn the sweep. Fuca, playing fourth, and Ampel, playing sixth, would sweep its opponents with 6-0, 6-0 results.
Laura Swenson also put up a strong performance with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alex Greenberg at No. 5.
