Thoroughbreds short at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT scored seven unanswered goals late in the second half to rally past Skidmore 16-12 in Liberty League women's lacrosse Saturday.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 5-3 and 1-2 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers jump to 4-3 and 2-0.
 
Emily Hirsch led Skidmore with four goals, while Shelby Boland and Cas Szwajkowski scored three goals apiece. The Thoroughbreds won 19 draw controls. Goalkeeper Caroline Kenlon had the loss in net with seven saves.
 
Meghan Donahue, Coletta Rigas and Maegan Schmauder scored three goals each for RIT.
 
Shots were 30-24 in favor of RIT. The Tigers finished with 11 draw control wins and went 5-for-5 on free position shots. Goalkeeper Rebekah Snitkof earned the win in net for RIT with five saves.
  
RIT took the lead out the gate with consecutive goals within the first two minutes of the game. Two goals from Szwajkowski tied the game at 5-5 with 10:59 to go in the half. Livecchi and Schmauder tallied for RIT, regaining the 7-5 lead.  Schmauder and Szwajkowski traded goals late in the half to make it 8-6 RIT at halftime.
 
The Thoroughbreds came out in the second half with authority, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 10-8 lead with 20:31 left to go in regulation. Darrell cut the Skidmore lead to 10-9 with 18:33 left, before Shelby Boland put Skidmore back up 11-9 with 15:44 left.
 
The Tigers would respond with seven unanswered goals. to make it 15-11 with 5:49 to go in the half.

Ana Boogaerts gave Skidmore a glimmer of hope, breaking the run with 3:15 left, cutting the RIT lead to 15-12. Darrell put the game away with her tally with 58 seconds left.

Skidmore hosts Hamilton on March 28 at 5 p.m.
