#8 Wesleyan comes from behind to down Skidmore 12-8

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Wesleyan University erased a three-goal deficit with a 7-1 run on the way to a 12-8 men's lacrosse win over Skidmore College Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 3-5, while the 8th ranked Cardinals have won five straight to improve to 6-1.
 
Brendan Halloran led the Thoroughbreds with three goals and two assists. Eric Megnia added two goals, two assists, and four ground balls and Cody Legeza had a goal and an assist. R.J. Caruso and Garrett Munck had solo goals. Alex Miller contributed seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and an assist. Logan Hart had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Alex Towey chipped in three caused turnovers and two ground balls. 
 
Ronan Jacoby led the Cardinals with three goals. Christian Barker had two goals and two assists and Taylor Ghesquiere added two goals and an assist. Zander Kotsen and Harry Stanton scored two goals each. Andres Rodriguez had seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Zach Zavalick won 11 of 15 face offs and had seven ground balls.
 
Wesleyan scored off the opening faceoff. Zavalick won and fed Jacoby for a 1-0 lead just six seconds in. Skidmore settled down and scored twice before the end of the quarter. Megnia  got the first goal at 12:52 from Halloran, then Halloran scored from Megnia at 5:48.
 
The Thoroughbreds opened the second quarter with Legeza's man-up goal at 14:27 from Halloran for a 3-1 lead. Kotsen scored a man-down goal for the Cardinals at 12:15 to cut it to 3-2. Megnia made it 4-2 with a man-up score at 11:40. Munck upped it to 5-2 at 9:20 from Megnia.
 
Wesleyan then scored nine of the next 10 goals over the rest of the second and into the third quarter to open an 11-6 lead on the way to the 12-8 win.
 
The Cardinals outshot the Thoroughbreds 35-22. There were 50 turnovers in the contest, with Wesleyan committing 28.
 
Skidmore used three goalies. Starter Chris Baughan had three saves in the first quarter, tying him for the Skidmore career mark of 611 set by James deGorter. Tim Rahill had one save in the second quarter, while Dylan Fleishmann stopped five shots over the final 30 minutes.
 
Steve Kovalsky had the win in relief for Wesleyan he had five saves over the final 34:33. Otto Bohan had seven saves in the first 25:27.
 
Skidmore travels to Keene State March 27 for a 4 p.m. nonleague game.
