Thoroughbreds open season in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Skidmore College softball team started the 2018 season in Florida with a pair of close losses on Sunday.
 
The Thoroughbreds lost 5-4 to Haverford College and 11-8 to Marietta College.
 
Against Haverford, Karly Fishkin went 3-4 with a double. Lizette Roman-Johnston and Jill Strileckis also doubled. Amanda Carilli took the loss, she allowed one run on six hits over four innings.
 
The Thoroughbreds allowed only one earned run in the game. Haverford scored four unearned runs in the fifth inning to go up 5-2. Skidmore scored unearned runs in the sixth and seventh to close it to 5-4.
 
In the second game, Marietta took an 8-0 lead after three innings. Skidmore battled back with a run in the fourth and four in the fifth to cut it to 8-5. A pair of Pioneer runs in the top of the sixth made it 10-5, but the Thoroughbreds responded again with three in the bottom of the sixth to get with in two 10-8. A Marietta insurance run in the top of the seventh provided the 11-8 final.
 
Rookie Adrianna Garcia went 3-4 with three runs for Skidmore. Fishkin powered a two-run homer to key the fifth-inning rally. Kristina Foley was 2-4 with three-run double in the sixth inning. Strileckis went 2-2 with a two-run double and Roman-Johnston was 1-4 with a double and two runs.
