SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Vassar's B.J. White calmly sank three free throws after the final buzzer to give the Brewers a 72-71 Liberty League win over Skidmore College Tuesday night at the Williamson Center.

The Thoroughbreds are 11-9 overall and 7-7, while the Brewers move to 7-14 and 6-8.

Edvinas Rupkus led Skidmore with a game-high 22 points, 19 coming in the second half. The 22 points move the junior past the 1,500 career scoring mark, He is fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,506 points, 15 behind David Burch '99.
Dakpe Yiljep had a double/double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Marcus Jackson scored seven points to go alone with four blocks.
Chase Ta chipped in five assists and six points.

Jesse Brown paced four Vassar players in double figures with 20 points. Paul Grinde had 14 and White finished with 12. Zach Bromfeld contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.

The game featured eight ties and 10 lead changes.

The Brewers came out strong, taking a 9-1 lead before
Martin Bedulskij scored Skidmore's first field goal with 16:25 left in the first half. The Thoroughbreds led for the first time, 17-16 on a Dakpe layup with 12:52 left. Skidmore kept a one or two possession lead the rest of the half, leading 40-35 at the break.

The second half played the same way, with eight lead changes and neither team able to go up by more than six, until
Noah Meren hit a free throw with 3:12 left to give the Thoroughbreds a 66-59 advantage.

Vassar kept pounding the ball inside to Grinde and Bromfeld, eventually going in front 69-68 on a Grinde layup with 11 seconds left. After a Skidmore timeout, Rupkus drove the lane for the go ahead basket despite being fouled. He converted the free throw for the traditional three-point play and 71-69 lead with 3.7 seconds left.

A long inbound pass found its way to White, who was fouled on a three-point attempt that just missed at the buzzer. With no time on the clock, White made three straight free throws for the win.Â

"Tough loss to swallow," said Skidmore coach
Joe Burke.  "We didn't play great, but we certainly had opportunities to put them away and didn't. When you let teams hang around you lose control of certain situations at the end. We didn't close which allowed the officials to be part of the last few seconds."

Skidmore closes out the regular season home schedule this weekend against #25 Hobart on Friday at 8 p.m. and RIT on Saturday at 4 p.m.Â
