Beavers edge Thoroughbreds in OT

SARATOGA SPRINGS. N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team just missed its fourth straight win, losing 3-2 in overtime to Babson College in New England Hockey Conference action Saturday evening at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.

The Thoroughbreds are 5-17-1 overall and 3-12-1 in NEHC play, while the Beavers are 12-8-3 and 10-4-2.

Skidmore will close out the regular season on the road next weekend at Castleton and Norwich.  The Thoroughbreds are tied with Castleton for seventh place, two points behind Southern Maine in sixth.

Both teams were coming off Friday night overtime games. Skidmore beat UMASS Boston 3-2, while Babson tied Hobart 3-3.

The Beavers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period on Bobby Hall's 10th goal of the season at 7:43. Nick Rosa found Hall backdoor for an easy tip-in.

Skidmore tied it in the second period when Owen Campbell found the net during a scramble in front at 10:34. Max Hegge and Matt Wolf assisted.  Babson took advantage of a blue line turnover to go back in front at 12:51. Rosa scored from Patrick Flynn and Hall.

Senior Day honoree Connor Pelkey blasted a shot home from the top of the right faceoff circle to tie it at 3:57 of the third from Tim Allen and Matt Muzyka.

The Beavers through everything they had at the Thoroughbreds, but Skidmore goalie Brandon Kasel stopped all 16 shots he faced in the third, including a Rob Devaney breakaway with 3:10 to play in regulation.

In overtime, Babson won the faceoff and quickly moved down the left side, setting up Matt Morrow's quick shot got past Kasel  just 12 seconds in. Devaney had the assist.
