Fast start lifts No. 19 Ithaca over Thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A fast start lifted No. 19 Ithaca to a three-set victory over the Skidmore College volleyball team, in Liberty League action at the Williamson Sports Center Friday night.

Skidmore falls to 14-6 overall and sit in a three-way tie for third in league action with a 2-2 record. Ithaca, the 19th-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association weekly polls, remain unbeaten in league action with a 3-0 record, and an 11-5 record overall.

Ithaca started off strong in this match, scoring the first five points. The Bombers hit .457 as a team to take the first set, 25-8. Skidmore battled with the Bombers in the second set, but an 11-4 burst allowed Ithaca to pull away in the second set, 25-15. The Thoroughbreds responded with two quick points to open the set, and went on a 4-1 run late to tie the set at 20, but Ithaca went on a 4-0 run to put Skidmore at the brink, and despite a few impressive points by the Thoroughbreds, Ithaca won the final set by a 25-22 score.

Junior Katy Ehnstrom led the Thoroughbreds offensively with six kills, adding three total blocks. Senior Allie Dillon added 12 digs on the defensive end.
