SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team capped off the 2018 season with a split in day two of the Skidmore College Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds fell to Morrisville 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20) but rallied to defeat New Paltz in the finale, 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-10, 25-15).
 
Skidmore finishes the season at 20-11.
 
Skidmore and Morrisville split the first two sets with each team winning by a narrow margin. In the third set, the Mustangs came out to a quick lead, only for the Thoroughbreds to claw back to tie the set at 10. Morrisville took control with a 3-0 run, and despite Skidmore's best efforts, could only get within two as the Mustangs held on. Morrisville had a fast start in the final set, and held on despite a late Thoroughbred rally.
 
Katy Ehnstrom led the team with 19 kills, hitting .395. 
Sophia Hettler tallied 11 kills and nine digs. 
Allie Dillon led the defense with 19 digs, while 
Lily Fitzgerald tallied a career-best 11 digs.
 
Skidmore and New Paltz battled in the first set of their match, before Skidmore opened things up with an impressive 8-0 run, taking a 17-10 lead. The Thoroughbreds would hold off the visitors en route to the first set win. New Paltz held off another Thoroughbred run in the second set, finishing the second with a 6-0 run of its own to even things up at one.
 
From there, it was all Skidmore, who closed the season with dominant third and fourth sets.
 
Four players tallied double-digit kills. Ehnstrom led with 15, hitting .294. 
Caite Canfield and 
Sophia Hettler finished with 13 kills apiece, with Hettler also hitting .294, and Canfield hitting .287, adding a team-leading 21 digs in her final collegiate match. Also playing in her last match was 
Bailey Hutchins, who finished with a 10-kill, 10-dig double-double. 
Lauren Wolters tallied a career-high 48 assists, adding seven digs and five total blocks. Dillon finished with 17 digs and added a service ace in her final match.
 
Ehnstrom and Wolters were named to the Skidmore Invitational All-Tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.
