CORTLAND, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team kicked off the 2018-19 season with a 4-1 nonleague win at SUNY Cortland Friday night.
The Thoroughbreds (1-0) travel to Norwich on Nov. 2 to open NEHC play.
Rookie defensemen
Reid Russell scored his first collegiate goal at 4:59 of the first period to open the scoring.
Adam Moodie and
Owen Campbell
assisted.
Max Hegge made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 13:20 of the second period.
Cortland got on the board at 4:31 of the third period on a Scott Docherty goal. The Thoroughbreds responded at 14:04 when
Matt Muzyka scored from
Brandon Borges and
Corey Morgan.
John Litscher added an empty net goal from Moodie and
Tyler Hall at 19:35 for the 4-1 final.
Brandon Kasel had 27 saves in net for Skidmore. Nick Modica stopped 41 shots for the Red Dragons. Skidmore had a 45-28 shot advantage. Both teams were 0-3 on the power play.
