Thoroughbreds close in on playoff berth with 3-0 win at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's soccer team controls its playoff destiny after a 3-0 Liberty League win Wednesday night at Union College.

The Thoroughbreds (7-6 overall, 4-4 Liberty League) need a tie or win in their final game at Bard on Oct. 27 to qualify for the Liberty League tournament.

Skidmore put the game away early with three first half goals against the Dutchwomen (6-7-2, 3-4-1).

Courtney Shaw scored put the Thoroughbreds in front 1-0 with her second goal of the season at 9:47. She then set-up Emma Basso at 18:42 for a 2-0 lead. It was Basso's second goal of the season and first since the season-opener against Gordon College.

Yasmine Boukari chipped in a shot from 35-yards out for her team-high sixth goal of the season at 20:47 for the 3-0 final.

Skidmore outshot Union 12-10. Ava Keller got the win in goal with three saves over the first 73:54. Vivian Montgomery-Walsh didn't face a shot over the final 16:06.

The Thoroughbreds are in sixth place with 12 points and could finish as high as fourth place with a win in Saturday's final regular season game at Bard.
