Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Thoroughbreds fall to SLU, 1-0

CANTON, N.Y. – An unlucky bounce for the Skidmore College women's soccer team gave host St. Lawrence a 1-0 victory, in Liberty League action at MacAllaster Field Saturday afternoon.

Skidmore (6-6, 3-4 Liberty League) sits on the outside looking in at seventh place with nine points, but have two league games remaining. St. Lawrence (9-1-3, 4-1-2 Liberty League) closes in on a playoff berth, sitting in third place with 14 points.

Shots were fast and furious for both teams with the Thoroughbreds outshooting St. Lawrence by a 20-12 margin despite the loss.

After a scoreless first half, St. Lawrence broke the tie in the 60th minute. A St. Lawrence cross into the net bounced around before Julia Mulhern corralled the ball and knocked home the goal.

From there, the Thoroughbreds once again continued to pepper Saints goalie Samantha Allen with shots from distance, but were unable to tie the game. A last chance effort by Yasmine Boukari with 20 seconds remaining sailed wide to the left as St. Lawrence held the ball for the rest of the contest.

Despite the loss, Ava Keller was solid in net for the Thoroughbreds with five saves. Allen picked up the shutout for St. Lawrence with four saves.

The Thoroughbreds continue their road swing on Wednesday, taking the short trip to Union for a 7 p.m. contest.
