SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team looks to clinch a Liberty League postseason berth for the second consecutive season, heading to the North Country for a pair of league matches this weekend.
The Thoroughbreds (16-9, 2-3 Liberty League) will take on St. Lawrence (17-7, 1-4 Liberty League) on Friday at 7 p.m., and will complete the weekend with a visit to Clarkson (11-9, 2-3 Liberty League) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Only Ithaca has officially clinched a league postseason berth, and will host with a victory this weekend. The Thoroughbreds can finish as high as third place with a pair of victories and a pair of losses by Vassar and a loss by Union. Skidmore will clinch a playoff berth with a weekend sweep and a Union loss to either St. Lawrence or Clarkson.
In its last match, the Thoroughbreds defeated Sage in one of its fastest matches of the season, a 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-20) sweep on Tuesday.
Katy Ehnstrom led the way with 12 kills, and
Sophia Hettler added 15 digs and five kills and four service aces.
St. Lawrence comes into the weekend winners of its last five matches, losing only two sets during the win streak. The Saints swept the Plattsburgh State Invitational last weekend, winning three matches.
Clarkson, the defending Liberty League champions, are tied with Skidmore for the last postseason spot and will clinch with a pair of victories. The Golden Knights are 4-2 in their last six matches. Skidmore leads the career series 29-20, but Clarkson has won the last 10 matchups against the Thoroughbreds.
