SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Skidmore's offense erupted for four second-half goals in 4-0 Liberty League field hockey win over Union College Friday afternoon at Wagner Park.

The win keeps the Thoroughbreds in the playoff hunt. Skidmore is 7-9 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Dutchwomen are 5-9 and 1-5.

With one conference game to play, there are five teams fighting for the final two playoff spots. Skidmore travels to Ithaca on Sunday for its final league game. The Bombers are 10-5 and 3-3. Â

The Thoroughbreds took charge after a scoreless first half.
Grace Florsheim fired a shot into the top right corner at 39:05 for a 1-0 lead.

Gabby Hyman made it 2-0 at 55:15 from
Sofie Marshall.

Gabrielle Vaccaro got loose on a breakaway, deking past Union goalie Heather Poisson to score into an empty net at 55:57 for a 3-0 lead. Hyman made it 4-0 at 63:23 when she got loose in front and made a move of her own to get a clear shot.

The Thoroughbred defense shined when it kept the Dutchwomen off the board during four penalty corners that came during a two minute span in the second half.

Skidmore had a 17-9 shot advantage, while Union led 9-7 in penalty corners.

Elizabeth Coughlin had four saves in 64:51 for the win.
Madeleine Carre didn't have to make a save in the final 5:09. Poisson finished with nine saves, including seven in the first half.
