Men's hockey returns to Weibel

Thoroughbreds to host Southern Maine, New England College in NEHC contests

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team returns to the Weibel Avenue Rink this weekend as the team hosts New England Hockey Conference contests against New England College and Southern Maine.
 
Skidmore will begin the weekend against Southern Maine on Friday at 7 p.m. and will close the weekend against New England College on Saturday at 4 p.m. Admission to both events are free to the public. Live stats and video will be available for both contests.
 
In addition, Friday's game will serve as a breast cancer awareness night for the Thoroughbreds. The team will provide a place for donations at the entrance of the rink, and will run in-game promos throughout. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
 
The Thoroughbreds (2-16-1, 0-11-1 NEHC) come off a pair of road losses to Norwich and Castleton last weekend. Against Norwich on Friday, Skidmore jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the first period after goals by Matt Bernot and Brandon Borges, but the defending NCAA Champions tallied three straight goals to pick up the 4-2 victory. Against Castleton, Skidmore tied a season-high with three goals, picking up a 2-1 early lead once again on goals by Borges and Owen Campbell. Castleton tallied five straight goals to take the advantage, picking up the 6-3 win. Connor Pelkey tallied Skidmore's third goal in the final period.
 
Freshman Matt Muzyka leads the team in scoring with 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Fellow rookie Brandon Borges is second with nine points on four goals and five assists, having picked up three points in the last two games. Sophomore Tim Allen is third in scoring with eight points (three goals, five assists) in 14 games. Junior and co-captain Adam Moodie shares the team lead with four goals.
 
Sophomore Brandon Kasel sports a 3.54 goals against average and a .901 save percentage in 18 games played. Rookie Brian Kowalski has a 3.51 goals against average and an .897 save percentage in four games and two starts.
 
Southern Maine comes into the weekend with a 3-11-4 record and a 3-6-3 mark in league action. Last weekend, the Huskies split a pair of contests with a victory over UMass Boston and a loss to Babson. This past Tuesday, Southern Maine dropped a 2-0 decision to Bowdoin.
 
Parker Sanderson and Michael Taormina share the team lead with nine points. Sanderson leads the team in goals with five, while Taormina has three goals and six assists. Brendan Murphy leads the team with seven assists.  In net, Anthony D'Aloisio sports a 2.49 goals against average and a .915 save percentage in 15 contests.
 
New England College comes into the weekend with a 11-6-2 record and a 6-5-1 mark in the NEHC. The Pilgrims are unbeaten in the last three games, defeating Babson and UMass Boston over the weekend and drawing with Salem State on Tuesday.
 
The Pilgrims sport eight double-digit scorers, leading with 19 points from Joe Osaka (12-7—19) and Adam Zöllner (5-14—19). New England College also have double-digit assist performers in Mike Whitehair (10) and Carlos Fornaris (11). In goal, Kyle Shapiro sports a 2.54 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 16 starts.
