Thoroughbreds tripped up at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— Bard College held Skidmore to a season-low 58 points on the way to a 63-58 Liberty League win over the Thoroughbreds Friday night.

The set-back leaves Skidmore with a 9-5 overall and 5-3 Liberty League record.  The Raptors are 6-9 and 4-4.

Edvinas Rupkus led the Thoroughbreds with 17 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Noah Meren added 15 points and Dakpe Yiljep contributed 13 points.

David Runcie was one of three Bard players in double figures with 17 points and 13 steals.

Skidmore led by 10, 48-38 with 10:02 to play, but Bard whittled away the deficit, going ahead 57-56 on a pair of Runcie free throws with 2:35 left. Runcie went 6-for-8 from the line the rest of the way for the 63-58 final.

"You have to credit Bard," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke.  "I thought they kept competing and they made the plays at the end.

"We are in an unfamiliar spot right now. We are down a few guys and not playing good enough basketball with the team we are putting on the floor.  With the success we have had no one will feel sorry for us and it's up to us to dig a little deeper to get through this difficult stretch. I will find out a lot about this group in the next couple weeks."

The Thoroughbreds continue the road trip at Ithaca College on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tip.
