TROY, N.Y. – A pair of second half goals were the difference for Rensselaer, as the Skidmore College women's soccer team fell 2-0 in Liberty League action at East Campus Stadium on a cold Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 2-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play. The Engineers remain perfect in the Liberty League at 3-0 and are 6-2-1 overall.
Skidmore had a chance to take a lead on RPI in the second, after a scoreless first half. On the attack in the 52nd minute,
Courtney Shaw's chance hit the wide side of the goalpost, and was eventually kicked away by the RPI defense.
The Engineers got on the board in the 63rd minute, as Dali Alarian took a left-footed shot into the top left corner of the net. With Skidmore pressing to tie things up, RPI tacked on a second on a corner in the 86th minute, with Bethany Hanson heading in the goal.
RPI held an 18-13 edge on shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Christina Sanzari led the way with six shots, all on net. Shaw added five, with one on net.
Alyssa Rollins made eight saves in the contest. RPI's Joey Lyons picked up the clean sheet, stopping all eight shots on net.
Skidmore returns to Wachenheim Field next Saturday for Homecoming weekend, hosting Vassar at 3 p.m.
