POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer rallied from two goals down for a 3-3 Liberty League tie at Clarkson University Tuesday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds pick up their first league point with a 2-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 league mark. The Golden Knights are 4-2-3 and 1-0-1.
Clarkson wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 27 seconds into the contest.
A little over 11 minutes later, Skidmore tied the game up on a defensive miscue. In an attempt to clear a ball from the its net a Clarkson player mistakenly hit the ball into the back corner of the net at 11:59.
After 12 more minutes of back and forth play, Clarkson regained the lead with a strong individual effort from Madison Kather who took the ball 70 yards to the Skidmore end for a goal at 24:41.
Clarkson extended its lead to 3-1 less than 10 minutes into the second half on a goal by Ashley Abel at 53:59.
Despite the deficit, Skidmore kept at it on offense, as Elyse Geen had to make a sprawling save midway through the half to keep the margin at two. The Thoroughbreds beat the Clarkson keeper a few minutes later, though, when
Christina Sanzari hit a left-footed shot into the opposite corner, pulling Skidmore to within 3-2 with 16 minutes remaining.
Ten minutes later, the Thoroughbreds struck again as
Yasmine Boukari took the ball from the left wing and maneuvered around a few Clarkson defenders, striking it with her right foot as she was falling over. The ball had enough English on it to surprise Green, who had the ball glance off her outstretched hands on a dive.
Although plenty of offense preceded them, there weren't many chances to be had in the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Skidmore finished with a 20-12 edge in shots, but Clarkson owned an 8-2 lead in corner kick chances. Alyssa made five saves for Skidmore, while Green finished with 11 saves for the Knights.
The Thoroughbreds travel to RPI on Sept. 30 for a 3 p.m. match.
