#9 Thoroughbreds earn 3-2 win over #15 Hamilton

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The 9th ranked Skidmore College field hockey team scored three straight goals and then held off #15 Hamilton in a 3-2 non-conference win Tuesday afternoon at Wagner Park.

The Thoroughbreds move to 3-1, while the Continentals fall to 2-1.

Hamilton struck first when Michaela Giuttari scored off a rebound on an early corner 3:53 into the game. Liz Wagenbach assisted.   Gabby Hyman tied it for Skidmore on a rebound at 9:59 from Caroline Saros.

The Thoroughbreds took advantage of a pair of early second half corners, taking a 2-1 lead on Kayla Rose's hard shot from just inside the circle that deflected off a Continental defender at 37:57.

Sarah Winters made it 3-1 when she scored off another rebound on a corner at 55:05 from Miranda Davenport.

Hamilton pressured the Skidmore defense with a pair of dangerous Giuttari of shots off a corner at 61:01, but goalie Zoe McGuire turned both away.  A minute later Giuttari finally solved McGuire scoring far side off a tough angle to cut it to 3-2 at 62:01.

The Thoroughbreds held strong the rest of the way denying a Continental chance off a corner with 1:27 to play.

Hamilton held a 23-8 shot and 10-6 corner advantage. McGuire finished with 12 saves, including eight in the second half. Julia Booth had three saves in the loss.

Skidmore's challenging schedule continues on Sept. 16 when the Thoroughbreds travel to #8 Montclair State for a 1 p.m. game.
