Thoroughbred staff four-hits Southern Vermont

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Pitching by committee worked for the Skidmore College baseball team in a 5-1 non-league win Tuesday afternoon over Southern Vermont College.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 10-18, while the Mountaineers fall to 7-23.

Seven Thoroughbred pitchers combined for a four-hitter. First-time starter Tim Allen (1-0) earned his first collegiate win, tossing three scoreless innings.

The bottom half of the line-up provided all of Skidmore's offense. Mike Fogarty drilled his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth. Batting in the eight hole, Matt Chipkin was 2-2 with a pair of RBI singles.

Cameron Clark was 2-3 for Southern Vermont. Zach Stacey was 1-3 with a run, a walk, a stolen base  and a hit by pitch. Starter Nick Gambardella (0-3) took the loss. He went six innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits.

The Thoroughbreds travel to Cortland for a pair on Saturday, before returning home for two on Sunday against Middlebury.
