Skidmore falls twice to RPI

TROY, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team dropped a pair of Liberty League games at Rensselaer on Saturday 8-0 and 12-2.

The first loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Thoroughbreds who are 12-18 and 2-4 in league play. The Engineers take over first place with a 16-6 overall and 4-0 league mark.

Lauren Fortunato's first-inning triple was the lone Skidmore hit in the first game. It was her third three-bagger of the season. Starter Amanda Carilli (9-8) allowed four runs on 11 hits in four innings.

In the second game, the Engineers scored seven runs in the first inning on the way to the 12-2 win. Only six of the runs were earned after five Skidmore errors.

Kristina Foley was 3-3, while Mary Farrington and Lizette Roman-Johnston had two hits each for the Thoroughbreds. Roman-Johnston had an RBI single and Maddie Nelson had a sacrifice fly to account for the Skidmore scoring.

The Thoroughbreds travel to St. Lawrence on April 22 for a key Liberty League match-up.
