KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The Skidmore College softball team opened the 2017 season with a pair of close losses on March 11. The Thoroughbreds lost to Cornell College 3-2 and Farmingdale State 6-2.

Against Cornell,
Lauren Fortunato accounted for both runs, going 2-2 with an RBI double and a sac fly.
Karly Fishkin scored both runs, on a pair of walks and a stolen base.Â
Amanda Carilli allowed three unearned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Fortunato had a two-run triple to provide the offense against Farmingdale.
Lizette Roman-Johnston,
Jill Strileckis, and
Heather Mak had singles for Skidmore.
Emily Popp took the loss in her collegiate debut. She allowed three runs (two earned) in 6.1 innings, striking out seven and walking one.

"It was great to get our season started today. Obviously, we wish the games had gone a little differently, but we saw a lot of exciting things from our young group today. Our team is committed to the process and will work to clean up our game as we continue playing this week."
