Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational kicks off Saturday

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team will take a break from New England Hockey Conference play to host the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
 
The Thoroughbreds (0-6-1) will take on Fredonia State University (3-3-1) out of the SUNYAC at 2 p.m. Saturday. The other semifinal features independent SUNY Canton (2-3) and 2016-17 NESCAC semifinalist and NCAA quarterfinalist and 10th ranked Hamilton College (1-0-1) at 5 p.m.
 
The consolation game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, followed by the championship game at 4 p.m. There is no admission charge for the tournament.
 
Rookie Matt Muzyka leads the Thoroughbreds in scoring with two goals and three assists for five points. Adam Moodie (3-1-4) has a team-high three goals, while Tim Allen (0-5-5) leads in assists with five. Brandon Kasel has a 3.53 GAA and .901 save percentage in six starts.
 
Fredonia had a four-game unbeaten streak snapped in its last game by Oswego, 5-3. Sam Wilbur (4-7—11) and Victor Tracy (3-5—8) lead the Blue Devils in scoring. Eric Bogart is 1-3 in net with a 3.96 GAA and .881 save percentage.
 
Coming off its best season in recent years, Hamilton is only two games into the 2017-18 campaign. Nick Ursitti (2-1—3) leads the Continentals in scoring. Neil Conway (8-21—29) is the top returning scorer. Hamilton split goalies on its opening weekend. Evan Buitenhuis is the returning veteran with a 17-5-4 record last season with a 1.78 GAA and .941 save percentage.
 
Canton snapped an early three-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over Brockport in its last game. Josh Silva (5-1—6), Joe Deveny (2-2—4) and Tyler Bullard (2-2—4) are the top scorers. Michael Cerasuolo (3.02, .918) and Austin Washkurak (3.03, .915) have split time in net.
