#12 Thoroughbreds rap Bombers to stay unbeaten in Liberty play

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Miranda Davenport scored two goals and the Skidmore defense allowed only two shots on goal in a 4-0 Liberty League field hockey shutout of Ithaca College Saturday at Wagner Park.

The defending Liberty League champions are 3-0 in league play and 7-4 overall. The Bombers are 6-5 and 1-2. It was only the seventh meeting and first since 2008 between the new Liberty League rivals. Skidmore has won all seven contests.

The game marked the return of Skidmore's 2010 NCAA Final Four team and All-American Katie Weber '07. The team and Weber were inducted into the Skidmore Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday night.

Skidmore got on the board first when Davenport fed Gabby Hyman in transition. Hyman fired a rising shot that quickly got over Ithaca goalie Savanna Lenker for a 1-0 lead at 12:46.

The 1-0 score held until Seeley Fancher put back a rebound off the goalie's pads for a 2-0 lead at 49:13. The goal was the first of three in a 7:03 span for the Thoroughbreds.

Davenport tipped one off a Marissa Folts pass at 54:12 and then moved through the Ithaca defense down the right side and found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season and the 4-0 final at 56:16.

Skidmore had a 17-3 shot and 11-3 penalty corner advantage. Zoe McGuire and Elizabeth Coughlin each had one save to combine for the shutout. Lenker had 10 saves for the Bombers.

The Thoroughbreds have outscored Liberty League opponents 10-0 through three games. The four goals were the most given up by Ithaca in a game this season.

Skidmore hosts Thomas College at 12 p.m. Sunday. It will be Senior Day for the team's seven seniors.
