SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team swept day two of the Skidmore Invitational, defeating Sage in three sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) and New Paltz in four (25-23, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23) at the Williamson Sports Center on Saturday.
Skidmore finishes the regular season with an 18-10 record, the most wins since the 2012 season. They will travel to top-seeded Ithaca for the Liberty League Tournament, held on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Against Sage, Skidmore hit .290 as a team, forcing Sage to hit .094 in the victory.
Katy Ehnstrom, the Skidmore Tournament Co-MVP, led the Thoroughbreds with 13 kills and a sparkling .667 hitting percentage.
Caite Canfield, named to the All-Tournament team, had nine kills on a .444 hitting percentage, adding 15 digs.
Lauren Wolters had 32 assists, while
Allie Dillon collected 19 digs defensively.
Gabby Rowell led Sage with six kills, four digs, and two blocks.
Skidmore and New Paltz battled through a grueling four sets. With the score tied at 22 in the opening set, Skidmore finished the set on a 3-1 run to take the lead. The second was all New Paltz, going on a long run midway through to knot the score at 1. Skidmore started the third set with an early 11-5 lead, holding off a late New Paltz charge to take the 2-1 set advantage. In the fourth, Skidmore once again took an early advantage, before a New Paltz rally tied the set at 23. Skidmore then took the lead on a bad New Paltz set and clinched the victory on a New Paltz attack error.
Canfield led Skidmore in game two with 12 kills and a season-high 21 digs. Ehnstrom tallied 11 kills, with
Bailey Hutchins adding nine with 10 digs.
Lauren Wolters had a strong all-around game with 37 assists, three kills, three service aces, and six digs. Dillon added 16 digs and a pair of assists.
Maddie Van Pelt and Kerri Neville each tallied 13 kills to lead New Paltz. All-Invitational Team member Maddie Zwickl added 46 assists, nine digs, three aces, and a pair of kills.
