Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Thoroughbreds dismiss Bard to earn Liberty berth

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— The Skidmore College men's soccer eased past Bard 3-0 and then watched Clarkson come-from-behind to beat Rensselaer 2-1 in overtime to snag the final spot in the Liberty League Tournament.

The Thoroughbreds finish 6-3-6 overall and 2-2-5 in Liberty League play. Skidmore finished tied with RPI for the sixth and final playoff spot, but owns the tiebreaker over the Engineers with a 1-1 tie against regular season champion Hobart. The Thoroughbreds travel to Canton on Oct. 31 to play third seed St. Lawrence.

Bard ends its season 3-12-1 and 0-8-1.

The win snaps a five game winless streak for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds were 0-2-3 during that span.

Skidmore took control from the start when the always dangerous Augustine Okoye fired a shot past the keeper from the top of the box for his 10th goal of the season at 10:14. Matt Schwab made it 2-0 a minute later when he forced a turnover in the Bard box and scored his first goal of the season. Kevin Santos made it three goals in 4:02 with his third of the year from Mike Park at 14:16.

The Thoroughbreds outshot Bard 23-9, but the Raptors didn't get a shot on goal. Pearse Martin didn't have to make a save in his first collegiate shutout.
