Breaks fall the wrong way for Thoroughbreds

CANTON, N.Y.— The Skidmore College men's soccer season came to an abrupt end in the Liberty League quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon in a 1-0 loss to St. Lawrence.

The sixth seeded Thoroughbreds controlled the play, but it was a difficult shot in the 68th minute that deflected in for the 1-0 SLU win.

Skidmore ends the season at 6-4-6, including two 1-0 decisions to the Saints. St. Lawrence, 8-6-3,  advances to the Liberty League semifinals to face Vassar College.

Rob Brandell tipped a ball to Brendon McNamee outside the 18-yard box that McNamee fired on net for the lone goal.

Skidmore created several chances prior to the goal, but Saint goalie Mike Smith compiled a season-high 10 saves to keep the Thoroughbreds off the board.

Skidmore topped the Saints in shots 21-12 and held a 10-3 shots on goal advantage. Brennan Mitrolka led Skidmore with three shots on goal.

Sebastian Bosch had two saves for the Thoroughbreds.
