SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A pair of second-half goals were the difference for Union, as the Skidmore College women's soccer team fell to the Dutchwomen 2-0, in Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field Wednesday night.
Skidmore falls to 3-10-2 overall and 0-6-2 in conference play. Union improves to 8-5-2 and 3-4-1 in conference.
Union had an early chance at a goal in the 20th minute, when a corner attempt rattled in front of net, with seemingly a number of players getting a touch at it. Skidmore goalie
Alyssa Rollins eventually got a handle on the ball to end the threat.
Just after halftime, Union converted on a corner attempt to take the lead in the 48th minute. Paige Sherling lifted a feed into the middle of the box in front of net, with Sydney Keane rising to head the service in the right corner of the net.
Fighting back to try to knot things up, Skidmore saw its best chance to get on the board in the 66th minute. A well-placed service near the end line by
Yasmine Boukari into the box deflected off of
Emma Basso's foot, with the ball rolling to the goal line, before a Union defender kicked the ball out of harm's way. In the 75th minute,
Emily Mendes took a shot from about 30 yards away, the ball lifting in the last second, hitting the crossbar.
Union tallied its second goal in the 82nd minute. Lisa Aasa fed a service to Sherling in front of net, as she was able to lift the chance above Rollins for the goal.
Skidmore outshot Union by an 18-11 advantage, while the Dutchwomen earned 10 corner kicks, to the Thoroughbreds' two. Rollins made five saves in the effort, while Allison Sorkenn made 12 saves in the victory.
The Thoroughbreds wrap up the regular season on Saturday, when Bard comes to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. for a 2 p.m. contest.
