SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College volleyball head coach
Hilda Arrechea picked up her 500th career victory, as the Thoroughbreds defeated Plattsburgh 3-1 (25-22, 25-12, 18-25, 25-16) in non-league action at the Williamson Sports Center Wednesday evening.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 14-8 overall, while the Cardinals fall to 6-16.
Arrechea has a career record of 500-300 (.625) and ranks 29th among active NCAA Division III coaches in wins. During her tenure, Skidmore has reached the NCAA tournament eight times and won four league championships. Her teams have posted 17 winning seasons, including nine seasons of 25+ victories and a school-record 38 wins (38-5) in 2000. Arrechea's athletes have received All-American honors 17 times.

Jerry Rodriguez, have been named Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year seven times.
Katy Ehnstrom led the Thoroughbreds with 15 kills and a .414 hitting percentage.
Caite Canfield added 13 kills and 21 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.
Lauren Wolters paced the offense with 47 assists.
Hunter Grotjohn led Plattsburgh with 12 kills, while Bryanne Yasui added 17 digs.
Skidmore battled with Plattsburgh in most of the opening set. With the score at 19, Skidmore tallied three straight points to briefly take control, before Plattsburgh rallied to tie things up. Consecutive kills by
Sophia Hettler, Wolters, and Ehnstrom closed the door on the Cardinals in the 25-22 first set victory.
Skidmore took that momentum into the second set, earning five of the first seven points. After Plattsburgh tied things up at 11, Skidmore closed it out on a monster 14-1 run, capped by kills from Ehnstrom and Wolters, surrounded by three service aces by
Clara Jones.
Plattsburgh took early control of the third set, taking an early 5-1 lead, before Skidmore rallied, taking a brief 15-12 lead. The Cardinals won four straight points to take advantage, before Skidmore stopped the run with a Wolters kill to knot things up at 16. Plattsburgh then went on a 6-0 run, eventually pulling away to earn the set.
Skidmore shook off the third set loss, leading throughout the fourth set. With Skidmore leading 22-15, the Thoroughbreds closed the set on a 3-1 spurt to take the match.
The Thoroughbreds return to Liberty League play this weekend, with an important road stretch ahead. Skidmore will travel to face Ithaca on Friday at 6 p.m., before ending the Liberty League schedule at RIT on Saturday at 1 p.m.
