SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team never trailed, defeating Bard 64-36 in Liberty League action at the Williamson Sports Center Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 8-1 in league play, picking up their 11th victory of the season. The Raptors fall to 0-15 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
It was a balanced scoring effort for the Thoroughbreds, as 11-of-13 players scored a basket. Junior guard
Kelly Donnelly notched another double-double in just 24 minutes of play, scoring 13 points and adding 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward
Taylor Ong tallied a career-high 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, adding four rebounds. Junior forward
Maja Stjepanovic tallied nine points off the bench, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
Forward Annie Kissel led the Raptors with a game-high 18 points, adding six rebounds and two blocks. Fellow forward Alexis Akingbade added six points and five rebounds.
The Thoroughbreds came out the gates strong, scoring the first eight points of the game en route to leading by as many as 17 in the opening half. With the clock ticking away in the 2nd quarter, junior guard
Ari Fustini found a cutting Ong for the layup, beating the buzzer as Skidmore took a 32-15 lead into halftime.
Skidmore opened the second half on a 7-2 run to push the lead to 24, before giving way to the bench. The second unit kept the momentum going, with the lead swelling to as many as 32 points, before settling at 28 late.
The Thoroughbreds forced the Raptors to shoot 30.8 percent from the field and 1-for-12 from the 3-point line in the game. The Thoroughbreds also outrebounded Bard by a 53-33 margin. The Skidmore bench scored a season-best 36 points and the Thoroughbreds also tallied 24 points off of Bard turnovers.
The Thoroughbreds will next host St. Lawrence on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
