Thoroughbreds fail to solve Hamilton puzzle

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Unbeaten Hamilton College scored three third-period goals to break open a tight game on the way to 4-1 non-conference win over Skidmore College, Monday afternoon at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.

It was the final non-conference game for the Thoroughbreds who take a 6-6-1 record into the final 12 games of the regular season. The 9th ranked Continentals are 8-0-2.

Hamilton scored the lone goal of the first two periods, when Tyler Bruneteau found himself open in the slot for a power-play goal at 9:33 of the first.  It was the first of eight Continental power plays. Skidmore killed off the remaining seven.

Truman Landowski scored a pair early third period goals at :43 and 5:12 to open a 3-0 lead. Jack Barton cut it to 3-1 with a blast from the blue line. Quincy Gregg and Matt Wolf assisted.

The Thoroughbreds pulled goalie Brandon Kasel with 4:56 to play and managed several chances, but were unable to get the second goal. Hamilton closed out the scoring with an empty net goal from Bennett Morrison.

Thanks in part to the eight power plays, Hamilton had a 40-25 shot advantage. Brandon Kasel had 36 saves for the Thoroughbreds. Charlie Fennell stopped 24 shots for the Continentals.

Skidmore was 0-3 on the power play, while Hamilton was 1-8.

The Thoroughbreds host Southern Maine on Friday at 7 p.m. and Daniel Webster on Saturday at 4 p.m.
