Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

1-1 road tie for the Thoroughbreds

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jack McDonald made five of his 34 saves in overtime to lead the Skidmore College men's hockey team to a 1-1 tie at St. Anselm College, Friday night in New England Hockey Conference play.

Owen Campbell's second-period goal gave Skidmore (7-7-2, 6-2-1 NEHC) a 1-0 lead after two periods but Brian Cameron's second-career goal canceled it out for Saint Anselm (7-6-2, 4-5-1 NEHC). The Hawks pushed for a late winner, outshooting the Thoroughbreds 17-9 over the final 25 minutes but the teams eventually settled for a tie.

After a scoreless first period in which Skidmore held a 9-6 advantage in shots, the visitors went ahead at 4:06 of the second when Campbell fired a shot from the middle of the left circle over the glove of Shane Joyce off assists from Marc Cibelli and Matt Wolf. The Hawks had chances in quick succession on the power play later in the period but were denied by Jack McDonald.

Saint Anselm found a tying goal at 7:13 of the final period as Mike Ferraro found Cameron in front for the tying goal. Jon Pallotta also picked up a helper on Cameron's tally.

Joyce kept the game tied with about five minutes left when he denied Anthony Bird following a turnover in the Hawks' defensive zone.

Saint Anselm took five of the six shots in overtime but McDonald turned aside a Blaszka shot from the slot a minute in and a Nick Leonard shot from in close with 45 seconds to go. Joyce stopped a Campbell effort with 22.3 seconds to go, before the Hawks had three shots in the closing seconds. All stopped by McDonald.

Saint Anselm outshot Skidmore 35-26 in the game. Joyce made 25 saves to move to 6-4-2 on the season, while McDonald stopped 34 shots and is now 3-5-2.
