SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y – Fresh off a 2-2 start to the 2016 season at the NYU Labor Day Invitational last weekend, the Skidmore College volleyball team looks to stay in the capital region with four games at the Union Invitational in nearby Schenectady on Sept. 9-10.

The Thoroughbreds started off with big victories against NYU (25-21, 25-19, 14-25, 25-18) and Plattsburgh (25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17), on Sept. 2, before falling to Rivier and Emerson the next day.
 
Katy Ehnstrom had a solid weekend, averaging 10.25 kills per match over the weekend, with a hitting percentage of .301. She was named as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Caite Canfield got her sophomore campaign off to a good start, earning All-Tournament honors with 38 kills and 54 digs. She tallied impressive double-doubles against Plattsburgh (10 kills, 11 digs) and Emerson (18 kills, 24 digs).
 
SCOUTING RAMAPO (2-2)
Ramapo comes into the weekend after trading wins and losses at the NYU Labor Day Invitational on Sept. 2-3. The Roadrunners picked up wins against Hunter and Keene State, and fell to Skidmore's common opponents in Emerson and NYU. Outside hitter Larysa Iwaskiw leads all of Division III in kills per set (5.88) and points per set (6.57).
 
SCOUTING MIDDLEBURY (0-0)
This is the season opening weekend for the Panthers, who went a solid 18-7 last season. During a season-high 10-match win streak, Middlebury defeated Ramapo and Sage at the Skidmore Classic on Sept. 26, 2015. The Panthers return virtually their entire roster for the 2016 campaign, the team played four juniors, five sophomores, and four freshmen in 2015.
 
SCOUTING ONEONTA (1-3)
Oneonta comes into the matchup this weekend after a 1-3 weekend in the North Country Season Opener, hosted by Liberty League foes Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Sept. 2-3. After falling to defending Liberty League champions Clarkson 3-2, the Red Dragons rallied to sweep St. Lawrence, winning 27-25, 25-14, 25-20. Oneonta fell to Central College and Roger Williams to close the weekend. Paige Carpluk leads the Red Dragons with 3.23 points per set, and 30 total kills.
 
SCOUTING SUSQUEHANNA (2-2)
Susquehanna comes into the weekend after dropping 3-0 decisions to Johns Hopkins and Colorado College. The River Hawks, currently receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, opened the season with two victories at the Colorado College Classic on Sept. 3. Leana Carvin leads the way for Susquehanna with 16 blocks and 23 kills.
