GENEVA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team and Hobart battled to an 110-minute scoreless draw in Liberty League action on Friday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds will head further west to Rochester to take on RIT on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Thoroughbreds sit at 0-0-2 in conference play after their second straight scoreless draw, and 3-3-2 overall. The Statesmen remain unbeaten in league play with a 1-0-1 record, and an even 3-3-3 record overall. It was the fourth overtime contest for Hobart.
Shots favored the Thoroughbreds, 18-10.
Alex Ricci led all Skidmore players with five shots, two on goal.
Ben Poole also recorded two shots on goal.
Derrick Yam played all 110 minutes in goal for the second straight contest, recording three saves.
Yam's counterpart, Alec Kaminer, made seven saves to hold the Skidmore offense at bay.
One of Skidmore's best scoring chances came with just over 29 minutes left in regulation. The Thoroughbreds earned a corner kick in the 61st minute. It was sent into the box by
Mike Park.
Nick Masiero blasted a shot on goal that was saved by Kaminer. The rebound bounced to
Austin Okoye, but his shot was blocked by a Statesmen defender just in front of the goal mouth. The rebound from that shot came to Poole who drilled his shot wide of the goal. Just over a minute later, Masiero lifted a shot just inches high of the crossbar.
In the 66th minute, it was Hobart's turn to miss scoring by inches. Nick Dosky drilled his shot just over the top of the goal.
Just 1:59 into the first overtime, Okoye had another chance to put the Thoroughbreds on the board. He broke by a defender to fire a shot on goal, but Kaminer came up with the diving stop. In the second overtime, Binjo Emmanuel had a scoring opportunity for the Statesmen. He turned on the speed to get a step ahead of his defender and blasted a shot, but it sailed wide right of the goal.
