Ricci's brace leads to men's soccer 2-0 victory over RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Alex Ricci tallied two goals to keep the Skidmore College men's soccer team undefeated in Liberty League play, defeating RIT 2-0 on a windy and rainy Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds will take a break from league play, traveling to face Elmira College on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Skidmore earns its first victory in league play, the record improving to 1-0-2, and 4-3-2 overall. RIT drops to 1-1-1 in conference play, and 4-4-2 overall.

Adebare Oyeniyi, Ben Zieff, and Kyle Barrett assisted on Ricci's two goals. Derrick Yam recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season, making five saves.

In the 24th minute off a corner kick, Zieff's kick found Oyeniyi, who fed Ricci in the box, his shot firing into the far corner of the net.

In the 86th minute, Ricci doubled the Skidmore lead, when Barrett found him in the box, finishing past the RIT keeper.

The Skidmore defense held strong to earn the victory. RIT's Dean Kouroupas had a chance early in the second half when he elevated off a corner kick and headed a ball towards the corner, but his shot was blocked away by the Thoroughbreds defense. With nine minutes remaining in regulation, Akram Meza fired from 15 yards out that was deflected by a defender. Ryan McMaster had a chance off the rebound, but Yam was able to make the save, keeping the Tigers off the board.

Skidmore outshot the Tigers 16-13, and earned six corners to RIT's two.
