ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira scored three second-half goals, defeating the Skidmore men's soccer team 3-2 in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon. The loss broke a season-high four game unbeaten streak for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore falls to 4-4-2 overall. The Soaring Eagles improve to 4-5-1, stretching its home unbeaten streak to 11 games.
Austin Okoye led the Thoroughbreds with two goals, both on
Alex Ricci assists.
Derrick Yam recorded four saves. Aidan Grey, Michael Bryant, and Kevin Kanakan all scored for Elmira, and Haruka Okamoto made seven saves in net for the victory. The Thoroughbreds outshot the Soaring Eagles 18-12. Elmira took eight corners, compared to just two for Skidmore.
Okoye's first goal came in the 13th minute. He rebounded a header by Ricci, scoring from about six yards out. The Ricci-Okoye combo worked again for the Thoroughbreds right after halftime. In the 48th minute, Ricci fed Okoye, who beat the aggressive keeper, calmly scoring in the open net.
Elmira responded with three goals in the final 38:27, eventually taking the lead on a Grey goal in the 88th minute off a corner kick.
The Thoroughbreds return to Liberty League play, hosting No. 10 St. Lawrence on Saturday at 3 p.m.
