SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Cortland, at Wachenheim Field on a cool Saturday evening. It was the season opener for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore will head to Utica to play in the Utica Invitational on Sept. 10-11, taking on Baruch and SUNY Maritime.
After an own goal by the Thoroughbreds (0-1) gave the Red Dragons (2-0) the lead in the sixth minute,
Yuta Nakagawa fed
Kevin Santos to tie the game at one in the 52nd minute. He received a cross from Nakagawa just inside of the penalty box, turning around to beat the defender and finished past the diving goalkeeper to the left.
Cortland scored two unanswered goals to grab the victory. Nick Tata put in a goal off a Nick Friend cross in the 57th minute, and Chris Hettler scored on a free kick in the 63rd.

Derrick Yam made three saves in the contest.
Cortland outshot Skidmore by a thin 12-11 margin. Joe Brandofino made three saves for the Red Dragons in net.
