Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#11 Field hockey falls to #16 Babson in home opener

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The No. 11 Skidmore College field hockey team fell to No. 16 Babson, 5-0 in a top-25 battle at Wagner Park Saturday afternoon. It was the home opener for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore will continue its five-game homestand when it hosts Geneseo on Sept. 10.

Babson (2-0) scored the lone goal in a close first half. Elise Towers found the ball off a deflection in the circle, finishing in the 11th minute.

Skidmore (1-1) had its best chance in the half in the closing moments. Mallory Perry appeared to have a chance on goal on a breakaway, but the Babson defense recovered as the clock expired. In the second half, Gabby Hyman launched a high shot from point blank range that back-up goalie Corinne Urisko barely parried away high.

Babson put the game out of reach with four second-half goals, including one that ricocheted off of the shoulder of Brielle Shafroth-Bach, and into the net in the 60th minute.

Becca Halter led the Thoroughbreds with two shots on goal. Zoe McGuire had eight saves.

Staci Swallow, Ashley Tango, and Victoria Spofford also tallied goals for the Beavers, who outshot the Thoroughbreds 16-13.
