Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#11 Field hockey tops Geneseo 6-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior Krista Lamoreaux and sophomore Gabby Hyman each tallied two goals for the Skidmore College field hockey team, leading the #11 Thoroughbreds to a 6-2 victory over Geneseo on a humid and rainy afternoon at Wagner Park. The Thoroughbreds will host #10 Montclair State on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.

Miranda Davenport and Caroline Saros also scored goals for the Thoroughbreds (2-1). Grace Florsheim added an assist.

All three Skidmore goalies saw action today. Zoe McGuire played just over 17 minutes, making four saves, before giving way to Elizabeth Coughlin, who got her first win of the season, making three saves and giving up just one goal in nearly 49 minutes of play. Maddy Carré made her collegiate debut in goal for the final four minutes of the contest.

Maria Dillingham and Diana Ruggiero tallied goals for the Knights (0-4), with Giovanna Fasanello recording an assist.

Hyman opened the scoring for the Thoroughbreds (2-1) in the 13th minute. She stayed active in the penalty circle, tapping in the rebound for her first score of the season. The lead was short lived, as Dillingham scored on a rebound of her own to knot the game just over a minute later.

Skidmore scored five unanswered goals in 28 minutes to put the game away. Davenport chipped in the second goal of the game in the 22nd minute from point blank range. Seven minutes later, Hyman got her second of the game, scoring the eventual game-winner off a deft feed by Florsheim inside the penalty circle.

The Thoroughbreds kept the pressure going into the second half. Saros picked up her first goal of the season, off a Skidmore corner. Lamoreaux's shot bounced off the keeper, into the waiting stick of Saros, who punched in the goal.

Lamoreaux then took control, scoring goals 1:21 apart, both off powerful shots at the top of the circle. Ruggiero got the final goal of the game for Geneseo in the 59th minute.

Skidmore led Geneseo with a 25-15 shot advantage, and an 8-3 advantage on corners. Geneseo was cautioned with a green card in the 29th minute, and with a yellow card in the 68th minute.
