Volleyball hosts the 2016 Skidmore Classic this weekend

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team will host the 2016 Skidmore Classic this weekend, as a part of the Thoroughbred Spirit Weekend and the Friends of Skidmore Athletics Benefit and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony festivities. Skidmore will open up the tourney against The Sage Colleges at 5 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Skidmore will square off with Nazareth at 11 a.m. before closing the classic against Cortland at 1 p.m. This is the first home matchup for the Thoroughbreds this season.
 
Last weekend, the Thoroughbreds opened up Liberty League play, going 2-2 on Friday and Saturday. The Thoroughbreds defeated Bard in three sets to close out the weekend. Freshman hitter Katy Ehnstrom led the Thoroughbred's offensively (46 kills, 3.29 per set) and defensively (14 blocks, 1.00 per set) throughout the weekend, lead the team in both kills and blocks in every match.  Ehnstrom's best performance was in a come-from-behind 3-2 win vs. Union, when she totaled 17 kills (a personal best) at a 0.471 hitting percentage and also recorded four blocks. Ehnstrom currently leads the team with 2.62 kills per set, with sophomore Caite Canfield right behind her with 2.57 kills per set.
 
Senior libero Marcela Familiar-Bolaños is among the national leaders defensively this season. She is 16th nationally in total digs (332), and 21st with 5.82 digs per set. She earned Liberty League honor roll honors on Sept. 19 for her performance at the Union and Sage Tournaments.
 
SCOUTING SAGE (7-10)
Sage opens up the Skidmore Classic with Skidmore. The Gators come into the matchup after a four-set victory against Hartwick, and have won four of the last six matches. After the Skidmore matchup, the Gators will start Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Cortland, and will close the Classic with a match against Nazareth at 1 p.m.
 
Sage is led by Sara Campolieta on offense, leading the team in kills per set (2.60). Rachel Liebig paces the Sage offense, averaging 7.60 assists per set.
 
SCOUTING NAZARETH (10-5)
Nazareth flies into the Skidmore Classic after defeating Empire 8 and Rochester rival St. John Fisher in three sets on Wednesday. The Golden Flyers will face off against Cortland on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and close out the Classic with a matchup against Sage at 1 p.m. after the game against Skidmore.
 
Maureen Thayer leads Nazareth in service aces (0.57/set), digs (3.46/set), and assists (9.19/set). Cady Messmer is the top offensive threat, averaging 2.93 kills per set.
 
SCOUTING CORTLAND (9-7)
Cortland comes into the matchup after defeating Wells in a five-set thriller on Wednesday evening at home. The Red Dragons will face Nazareth at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and face Sage on Saturday at 11 a.m., before they close out the tournament with Skidmore.
 
Courtney Silberer and Janine Patora is the dynamic offensive duo for the Red Dragons. Silberer leads the Red Dragons with 2.57 kills per set, with Patora right behind her with 2.41 kills per set. Sarah Piacentini paces the Cortland offense with 7.98 assists per set.
