No. 13 Field hockey wins sixth straight contest, beating Nazareth 6-1

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team won its sixth straight contest, hitting the road to defeat Nazareth 6-1 Sunday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds will host the defending Division III national champions in No. 3 Middlebury on Wednesday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds, ranked 13th in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association polls, improved to 7-1 with the victory, and a perfect 2-0 on the road. The Golden Flyers' record stands at 1-8.

Gabby Hyman led the Thoroughbreds with three goals. Krista Lamoreaux notched two goals and added an assist. Grace Florsheim tallied a goal, while Seely Fancher added an assist. Elizabeth Coughlin picked up her sixth victory on the season, not allowing a goal in 54:39 of action. Maddy Carré made a save in the final 15:21 of play.

Hyman opened up the scoring for the Thoroughbreds, scoring in the 11th minute, off a feed by Fancher. Florsheim doubled the Skidmore lead in the 18th minute, notching her sixth of the season. Nearly a minute later, Lamoreaux led Hyman to her second goal of the game to give Skidmore a 3-0 lead. Lamoreaux then tallied her two goals eight minutes apart, to close out the first half scoring.

Hyman got her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 45th minute. Near the end of the contest, Jennifer Hilts scored the lone goal for the Golden Flyers, her fourth of the year.

Skidmore dominated the shot count, to the tune of a 46-3 advantage. The 46 shots are a season high for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore also notched a season-high 28 shots on goal.
