POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team fell 7-1 to Vassar in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds will host William Smith and RIT in a pair of games next weekend, starting on Sept. 30.
The loss drops Skidmore to 0-1-1 in league play, and 3-2-1 overall. Vassar improves to 2-5-1, overall, winning its first conference game.
Nicole LoRusso scored the lone goal for the Thoruoghbreds in the 82nd minute, with
Emily Mendes picking up the assist. Mendes sent a through pass about 35 yards to LoRusso, who finished inside the penalty box off her own rebound for her first goal of the season.
Alyssa Rollins made two saves in net for the Thoroughbreds, playing the first 45 minutes. Deidre Walsh made her season debut, stopping four shots in the second half.
Rebecca Andrews scored two goals to lead the Brewers. Audrey Pillsbury and Gabrielle Deitch each scored a goal and an assist, while Emily Krebs, Rachel Chernet, and Jordan Moss scored off the bench for Vassar. Stephanie Tapolsky earned her second win of the season in goal, making three saves. The Brewers scored five second-half goals to pull away from the Thoroughbreds.
Vassar outshot Skidmore 19-7. Skidmore was held without a corner kick for the first time this season.
