Baseball ends season with a bang!

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team scored 14 runs on 14 hits on the way to a 14-12 extra inning non-conference win over New York University Sunday at MCU Park.

It was the final game of the season for the Thoroughbreds (14-25) and Violets (20-22).

In addition to the 26 runs, the teams combined for 29 hits and 12 errors.  The Thoroughbreds were behind 5-0, led 12-6, and then tied 12-12 after nine innings.

NYU had the winning run on second with one out in the ninth, when Skidmore turned a 6-4-3 double play sent the game into extra innings.

Josh Brown doubled to left with one out and was replaced by runner Eric Damphousse. After a fly out to left, Mike LaVita recorded his fourth hit of the game, a double to drive in Damphousse. LaVita then scored on a pair of wild pitches for the 14-12 lead. Reliever Misha Holzman (1-2) retired the Violets in the 10th for the win. Holzman worked the final four innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

LaVita was 4-6 with a run, four RBI, and two doubles. Brown went 3-5 with a double, triple and two RBI and Daniel Dasgupta was 2-6 with three runs.
