Thoroughbreds back in playoff picture with 11-5 win at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.— Emma Harris and Natalie LaBeau scored three goals each to led the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team to an 11-5 Liberty League win over Vassar College Saturday.
 
The win and weekend league sweep moves the Thoroughbreds to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in Liberty play. The Brewers drop to 5-4 and 1-2.
 
Cas Szwajkowski and Tyler Phillips added two goals each to the Skidmore total, while Marisa Caponi scored a solo goal.  Adele Mackey contributed an assist, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot Vassar 27-18 and had a 17-13 groundball edge. The teams split the draws 9-9.
 
Skidmore controlled the game from the start. Szwajkowski opened the scoring at 28:41. After a Vassar goal at 22:35, the Thoroughbreds scored five of the next six to lead 6-2 at the half.
 
The Brewers scored the first goal of the second half, but Harris had back-to-back goals and LaBeau scored to open a 9-3 lead. Vassar cut it to 9-5, but the Thoroughbreds responded again with goals from Szwajkowski and Phillips for the 11-5 final.
 
Megan Kolopsky had five saves in goal for the win.
 
Skidmore hosts RPI on April 15 at 7 p.m.
