Clarkson holds off Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Clarkson University used a five-goal run on the way to a 13-8 Liberty League men's lacrosse win over Skidmore College Saturday evening at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the Liberty League. Skidmore will close out the season April 30 at St. Lawrence. The Golden Knights are 4-10 and 2-4.
 
Ryan Warnock scored all three of his season-high three goals off faceoff wins for the Thoroughbreds.  He corralled eight ground balls off nine face off wins. Kevin Mulvey had two goals and an assist, while Jack Curry, Chris Melligon, and Colby Farnham scored single goals.
 
Ryan DaRin led Clarkon with four goals and an assist. J.R. Campbell added three goals and Ryan St. Croix had a goal and three assists. Nicholas Lenta won 16 of 23 face offs to go along with eight ground balls. Marc Simmons had seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
The teams traded goals into the second period. Warnock gave Skidmore a 4-3 lead at 11:00 when he won a face off and steamed straight through the Clarkson defense for the first of his three goals.   The Golden Knights went on a five-goal run to close the half and open the third quarter. DaRin scored the first two goals to get the rally started and Kyle Brown closed it at 9:34 of the third with Clarkson up 8-4.
 
Skidmore battled back on goals by Curry and Mulvey to cut it back to 8-6 with 5:05 left in the third. The Golden Knights responded by scoring four of the next five goals and five of the final seven on the way to the 13-8 final.
 
The Thoroughbreds had a 44-41 edge in shots, while ground balls were even at 28 each.
 
Chris Baughan had 11 saves for Skidmore over the first 58:39. Nick Strandholm turned away 16 Thoroughbred shots, including 10 in the second half.
