Softball wins Liberty League opener 2-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team opened its Liberty League schedule with a 2-1 walk off win over St. Lawrence. The Saints came back to win the second game 8-7.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 9-13 overall and 1-1 in league play. St. Lawrence is 8-9 and 1-1.
 
Game 1
Lauren Fortunato drilled her second home run of the season well over the wall in left center to give Skidmore a 1-0 lead in the first. The Saints tied it in the second when Emma Reakes doubled and then scored on an Elle Gray double.
 
The game stayed even with both pitchers working out of trouble until the bottom of the seventh.
 
Lila Rosenfeld reached on a one-out single to right and advanced to second on a ground out. With Emily Mangan running for Roseneld, Karly Fishkin walked on four pitches. With two outs and runners on first and second, the Saints opted to intentionally walk Dani DeGregory to load the bases. May-Lin McEvoy 2-1 grounder to second was mishandled by a distracted Carly Dziekan, allowing the winning run to score.
 
Amanda Carilli (7-6) got the win for the Thoroughbreds, allowing one run on seven hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Emma Gailey took the loss, she allowed one earned run on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
 
Game 2
St. Lawrence scored four runs (three earned) in the second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Skidmore came back with three in its half of the inning. All three runs came with two outs. Lila Rosenfeld had a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from Jill Strileckis and an RBI triple by McEvoy.
 
The Thoroughbreds took a 6-4 lead with three runs in the fifth. DeGregory had an RBI double and Fortunato had a two-run double.
 
The Saints tied it 6-6 with a pair of unearned runs in the sixth. 
 
Skidmore went back in front 7-6 with a run in its half of the sixth. Strileckis reached on single and later scored on a Karly Fishkin sac fly.
 
St. Lawrence rallied for two runs and an 8-7 lead with two outs in the seventh behind an RBI double by Allie Courtwright and an RBI single from Dziekan.
 
Gailey (5-2) got the win in relief. She tossed the final three innings, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
 
Carilli (7-7) took the loss, giving up eight runs (three earned) on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
 
DeGregory finished 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Fortunato was 2-4 with two RBI, while Cassie Fishkin was 2-4 with a run. Strileckis was 2-3 with a run and an RBI and McEvoy was 2-2 with a run and an RBI.
 
The Thoroughbreds travel to Springfield College on April 12 with a 3:30 start
