Thoroughbreds face Babson in NEHC Quarterfinals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team will open the postseason at 7 p.m. Saturday at Babson College in a New England Hockey Conference quarterfinal.
 
The Thoroughbreds (5-16-4) are seeded seventh, while the Beavers (17-5-3) are second.
 
Babson, ranked ninth nationally, is 2-0 against Skidmore this season with a 4-0 road win on Nov. 13 and a 3-0 home win on Jan. 22.
 
The Thoroughbreds have played six overtime games (1-1-4) and have had 17 of 25 games decided by two or fewer goals.
 
Marc Cibelli (12 goals, 18 assists, 30 points) and Anthony Bird (11-19—30) lead Skidmore in scoring. They are tied for third in overall scoring in the NEHC.  Cibelli is tied for the league lead in power play goals with seven and Bird is tied for first in power play points with 14.
 
Jack McDonald has been the team's workhorse in goal with a 2.92 goals against average and .915 save percentage in 20 games.  He has a pair of road shutouts (Norwich, Southern Maine).
 
Tim Searles (8-13—21), Bill Seligman (7-12—19), and Charlie Ackerman (11-6—17) lead a balanced Babson offense. Jamie Murray is one of the nation's top goaltenders with a  1.61 GAA and .938 sv% in 19 games.
 
The other quarterfinals feature #8 Southern Maine at #1 UMass Boston, #6 Castleton at #3 Norwich, and #5 New England College and #4 University of New England.
